Short answer
Black and midnight are common choices for formal eveningwear. Other colours, including green or burgundy, can work for events that allow a more individual look. Follow the invitation’s dress code; a coloured velvet jacket is not automatically a substitute for a black-tie dinner jacket.
Is green velvet too much?+
It depends on the event, venue and invitation. If the dress code is strict black tie, choose a conventional black or midnight jacket unless the host says otherwise.
Double-breasted velvet dinner jacket?+
Yes — double-breasted velvet with a shawl collar is the most architectural evening piece we cut. It suits taller frames and reads magnificent in photographs.
