Short answer
You do not need to measure yourself for a Bonturberg fitting — the tailor takes a complete professional set in person. Self-measurements below help you prepare, and returning clients use the same points to order remotely between city visits.
This page carries forward the measurement guide of the travelling practice that became Bonturberg — updated for the way the house now works: a private fitting in your city, and a Fit Passport that keeps every number for the years that follow.
What the tailor measures
At a first fitting the tailor records the full set — around twenty measurements across chest, waist, seat, shoulders, sleeves, back length and trousers — plus the observations no tape can take: how you stand, which shoulder rides, how you sit and walk. Those notes enter your Fit Passport with the measurements.
Preparing with honest self-measurements
If you would like to arrive prepared — or you are a returning client ordering remotely — take these measurements over your normal shirt and trousers, with a soft tape and someone to help. Stand the way you actually stand.
- Height & weight — the sanity check behind every proportion.
- Chest — around the fullest part, tape level, arms down.
- Natural waist — where your body bends when you lean sideways; for jackets measure the stomach too.
- Seat — the fullest point, tape level.
- Shoulder — seam to seam across the back, following the curve.
- Sleeve — shoulder point to the wrist bone, arm relaxed, with the cuff allowance you prefer.
- Jacket length — from the prominent neck bone at the back to the point the hem should fall.
- Trouser waist — where you actually wear trousers, which is rarely the “natural” waist.
- Trouser outseam & inseam — waist to hem along the side; crotch to hem along the inside, with shoes.
- Shirt collar & sleeve — collar snug with room for one finger; sleeve as above.
Write the numbers down and bring them. The tailor will re-measure professionally regardless — honest preparation simply makes the hour richer.
The garment you love
The fastest way to describe what you want is to show it. Bring the jacket whose shoulders are perfect, or the shirt with the collar you always choose. The house uses it to understand the line and feeling you want — then makes it to your measurements, not for your predecessor.
Ordering remotely, for returning clients
Once your pattern lives in the Fit Passport, shirts and proven garments can be ordered between visits: write to the house, receive cloth cuttings by post if you want a new choice, and confirm with a written quotation as always. New jacket models are planned in person, where posture can be verified.
Measurement questions
Do I need to measure myself before the fitting?+
No. Your tailor takes a full professional set at the fitting and observes posture in person. Self-measurements simply help the conversation and are required only for remote reorders of proven garments.
Which measurements matter most?+
Chest, natural waist, seat, sleeve and shoulder for jackets; waist, seat and outseam for trousers — but posture notes matter more than any single number.
Can I order remotely between city visits?+
Yes — returning clients can reorder shirts and proven garments using the pattern and Fit Passport on file, with cloth cuttings posted for new choices.
