Suit collar types,
explained simply.

The collar is the first thing people see. Here’s what each type communicates and when to choose it.

Short answer

The three main suit collar types are notch (versatile), peak (formal, adds height) and shawl (evening, smooth curve). Choose based on occasion, face shape and personal style.

Notch lapel

The small notch where the collar meets the lapel. Works for everything from office to dinner. If you only own one suit, make it a notch lapel.

Peak lapel

The lapel points upward toward the shoulder. More formal, adds visual height and authority. Choose for business formal and evening wear.

Shawl collar

A smooth, rounded curve with no notch or point. Black tie, dinner jackets and formal occasions.

Questions people actually ask

Can I change the collar on a made-to-measure suit?+

Yes — at Bonturberg the collar type is one of your personalisation choices at the fitting.
