Short answer
MTM shirts adjust a block to your collar, sleeve and body length — a genuine upgrade over retail sizes. Bespoke shirts are cut from your own pattern: collar style, yoke, cuffs, placket, cloth, all drawn for you. First bespoke shirt costs little more than quality MTM; every reorder after gets better as the pattern learns your preferences.
Where MTM shirts succeed
For standard neck-and-sleeve men, MTM shirts solve the eternal retail problem — the collar that fits the sleeve that does not — cheaply and reliably. If retail shirts gap at the neck or billow at the waist, MTM fixes exactly that. Honest verdict: a good MTM shirt is a fine garment.
Where the pattern wins
The neck, the shoulders and the sleeve pitch are where blocks approximate: one centimetre of yoke error shows all day. A shirt cut from your pattern — refined over orders as your Fit Passport notes accumulate — is the shirt you stop noticing. Clients describe the first truly correct shirt as “quietly life-changing”, which is less silly once you wear one.
The reorder economics
First commission includes the fitting and the pattern; reorders from the passport need no appointment — cloth cuttings by post, written quote, done. Shirts are also the ideal first commission for testing the house before a suit: smaller sum, same process, and the collar tells you everything about how we work.
