Short answer
Often the most rational bespoke commission of all: an overcoat uses more cloth than any suit, is worn daily through winter over every other garment, and is the layer the whole outfit is judged by. A badly fitting coat ruins good suits underneath it; a great one lasts twenty years and makes everything under it look expensive.
Why coats reward bespoke most
A coat must cut correctly over a suit — shoulders, sleeve pitch and length over jacket sleeves — which is precisely what size charts cannot verify. The collar must close against your neck without crushing the lapels beneath. None of this is exotic; all of it is invisible to RTW blocks.
Cloth is the decision that matters
A coat cloth should suit your climate, layers and how you travel. Ask the tailor to explain weight, weave, care and any price difference in the written quotation. The country price snapshots show public examples, not a complete market rate.
The twenty-year mathematics
A €3,000–5,000 bespoke coat over fifteen winters costs less per wear than winter parking. It is also the commission clients describe as the one they “should have done first” — because it is worn over everything, every day, by the one body it was drawn for.
